IMPORTANT – EMAIL FEED CHANGE

October 11, 2011

Hi there! This is a post on my “old” wordpress site to let you know that I moved over to a self-hosted wordpress.org domain today. This means three things:

  1. All links that you have to my blog *with any luck* should remain working. You can still come to brittaswiderski.com and that’s where I’ll be. :)
  2. Things look a little bit different at the moment over on brittaswiderski.com. I’m using a different wordpress theme, and when I have some more time this weekend possibly I’ll do a little more sprucing up around here. If you run into anything that looks fun or seems “broken,” feel free to leave a comment and let me know.
  3. My RSS feed URL has not changed (so if you read my blog through google reader or something similar, you’re fine), but my e-mail subscriptions service will be different.Click here or over in the column to the right on my website to follow my blog with feedburner. This will e-mail you posts just like wordpress did before, but it’s a different mailing list. Make sure to sign up so you don’t miss any posts if that’s how you prefer to read my blog!
Make sure you hop over to my “new” blog and add yourself to the e-mail list! See you over there. :)

DeNami Design: Fall Blog Hop

October 9, 2011

Welcome to another fabulous DeNami Design monthly blog hop. You should be arriving here from Tammy Hobbs’s blog, and if you’re just now seeing the hop, you can go here to the DeNami blog to start from the beginning and hop on through.

Here’s the card I came up with for the little challenge. I love these little chickie stamps, so I wanted to make something to feature this cute little pumpkin one (C64 Pumpkin Chickie) that I have. Love how the little chickie is so highlighted in that box!

I created that awesome leaf pattern with Versamark, the Ornamental Flowers Stamp Set from DeNami and a YG25 marker on kraft cardstock. It looks complex, but I promise it was really easy to do!

The lovely folks over at DeNami are giving away 2 $20 gift certificates to the DeNami store to random commenters, so make sure to leave a comment to enter the random drawing. I hope you have a fabulous time on the hop and take in some amazing fall-themed inspiration!

Your next stop on the blog hop is Jennifer Lobdell. Have fun!

A Card and a Winner

October 6, 2011

Thank you for all of your wonderful well-wishes over the past couple of days. I so appreciate them! I’m still feeling a little down, but my mood is picking up a little and now it’s more of dealing with the physical symptoms (muscle aches and head aches) and trying to relax. (By the way, Icy Hot is awesome for relieving neck and shoulder pains!) I know how important it is to focus on myself and my health, so that’s exactly what I’m doing. And don’t worry, I wouldn’t be blogging if it wasn’t something I really enjoyed doing. Making art and talking about it really is a form of therapy for me, and I love it!

I wanted to share a card I made this past weekend on World Cardmaking Day inspired by the Lawnscaping WCD challenge. By the way, Lawnscaping is hosting a Design Team call for a scrapbooking designer! Make sure you check out this post for more information. The deadline is coming up, so make sure you hop over there soon!

Here’s a close-up of the card. I’ve seen this whole multi-color word bubble line idea before and loved it, so I knew I needed to try it with this Many Thanks set from Lawn Fawn. Those fun, bright colors are all Memento Inks. Aren’t they happy?!

I also realized that I forgot to share the winner from my little scrapfest recap giveaway. Marilize, you win! E-mail me at britta.swiderski@gmail.com and I’ll send out a fun prize package right to you.

Thanks so much for stopping by today to visit! I just placed a huge Simon Says Stamp order last night (ehem… retail therapy?), so be looking for a nice haul video sometime next week. I’m so excited about the things I purchased! Among them, a fabulous new Corner Chomper that cuts 1/8″ and 3/8″ corners (the other one cuts 1/4″ and 1/2″). I’m SO excited for that! Here’s a peek at a few other things I picked up:

Hope your week is going well. Tonight I’m going out for a little nachos date with Cute Boy, so I’m excited for that! I think we’re both in need of a beer and some salty food after a very long week. See you again soon!

Simon Says… Make it Shine!

October 5, 2011

It’s time for another another Simon Says Stamp Challenge! This week, the goal is to make your project sparkle and shine. There are so many ways to go about this! The design team this week is featuring Stampabilites Stamps including Peanuts, House Mouse and many more fabulous types! I can’t wait to share my little bit of inspiration with you.

This cute stamped image, The Doctor Is In, is colored with a few copics and then set in a frame cut from some My Mind’s Eye paper for a little pizzaz. I’ve been on a Hero Hues kick lately, so all of the cardstock is from that awesome line of color besides the Neenah Solar White that I used for the main image. My sparkle is added with Diamond and Lime Green Stickles. Fun, fun!

Hero Hues Papers and Embellishments + Ohio Retreat Part 2

October 4, 2011

Hey there. I’m stopping in today with another Video Tutorial Monday as well as a recap of the rest of my fabulous weekend. Unfortunately, I’m feeling kind of icky today (and yesterday). My cold is getting much better, but my mood is low… a chemical thing. I’ve missed a few classes, and I absolutely despise being behind in class and having to make special accomodations. so my spirits are low. I’m trying to get caught up and get things done, but the mountain seems a little impossible right now.

But I’m trying. I know I can do this; this is a bump in the road and it’s only my brain telling me I can’t get caught up. So I’m going to keep chugging away, but words of encouragement would be so nice right now. I’ve made a list (my tried-and-true method for helping me get things done), and this blog post is on that list, so this is one more thing done. Next up: filling out a worksheet for my online course and e-mailing my professors apologizing for my absence. One step at a time. I aim to be real and personal on my blog, so this is me right now: feeling a little depressed but trying my hardest to get out of this chemical imbalance.

I had some very wonderful news yesteday: I’ve been accepted into my first choice study abroad program in Barcelona, Spain! So as long as I get all of my travel documents in and everything in order, I’ll be in Spain just three months from today. Something that I’ve been twirling around in my head is the idea of doing daily vlogs for those four months. I want something to really capture the experience, and I’d love to share my travels with my family and friends. This would be a pretty big commitment and something I would really want to do full-heartedly. So I’m going to think about it a little more before I commit to something like this.

I’m going through a lot of changes in my life right now. I welcome change, but it seems to take a big toll on my body and mind. I have to spend several hours a week in the coming months preparing for my travels abroad, my website is becoming something that could be my one and only job in the future, and it seems as though my friends are moving on through life in all different directions as we reach the end of college.

Things change, and I’m grateful for that. Thanks for staying with me and for your continued support as I try to keep my feet on the ground and my head staring up into the stars.

Enough about me, though. Let’s make a card! Here’s the card for this week:

I’ve been using the Hero Hues line more and more in the past few weeks. Verdict? I love it. Not only do I love Hero Arts as a company, but these products all coordinate so well, and that makes them fun to work with. Something that I forgot to mention in the video – the Hero Hues line also has Memento markers and embellishment dots to match. The whole set of them is on my ever-expanding must-have list!

Okay, now here’s a little bit more about my awesome weekend with some wonderful ladies in Ohio. Despite from travel issues with Delta (that they have since apologized profusely for) and several issues with hotel personnel (ehem… being rude!), it was an fantabulous weekend.

This was my lunch on Saturday from Carrabba’s. Mmmm… it was a delicious Grilled Fish Ciabatta sandwich. I’m definitely going to be getting that again!

My workspace kept getting messier and messier over the weekend. Before I knew it, I had worked myself into a small 6 by 6 square in front of me on my desk. Haha! Thankfully, I had Miss Kathy to help me pack the next morning when I woke up a little late. Everything is neatly sealed in plastic bags and still in my bags (except for what I used on the video tutorial for this week… ha).

Graeter’s ice cream… I could eat this Black Raspberry Chip ice cream for every meal forever and be completely content. On Saturday afternoon, Colin (Jennifer‘s adorable son) wanted to bring us ice cream, so he and Jennifer’s hubby, Ken, delivered and then scooped out ice cream for all of us. How nice and generous of them!

I couldn’t resist a little snapshot of the action. Here’s kathy talking to Jennifer (holding baby Abby – Heidi’s always-happy baby) while her sweet family serves ice cream. I love how Abby is looking at me take her picture. She did nothing but giggle and smile the whole weekend!

I couldn’t resist another shot of that ice cream. Are you getting how much I love this stuff yet?

Here’s our group picture from later in the day Saturday. I love all of these ladies so much. For your reference, here are the ladies that I had the honor to hang out with:

Top row, left to right: Heidi, Candy, Jana, Joy, Deborah, Tina and Margaret
Middle row: Christy, Kate, Stephanie, Sarah, Heather and Kathy (laying across the middle because she’s awesome)
Front row: Me, Jennifer, Julie and Sandi

On my flight home, our plan had to overshoot the airport to wait for its turn to land. In the process, I got a 360 degree view of Minneapolis. It was amazing. We even flew right over my house! This was my favorite shot (from south of the city, I believe).

It was a soul-refreshing weekend that was full of laughter, creativity and smiles. The hotel drama only added to the laughter. There was one point Saturday night that I was laughing so hard I cried. There will never be a more full, healthy feeling than that.

Off to go get more homework done and get back on track with class. Wish me luck! I’ll need it.

Love,
Britta

DeNami Challenge #8 – Color Scheme!

October 3, 2011

Hi all. Sorry this post is going up late; I fell asleep before I could write it last night! Oops. Hopefully I’ll win ya over with some cute DeNami butterflies ;) Here’s the DeNami Design challenge for this month:

Here’s my take on it:

I just love these butterflies. For coloring them, I just chose 5 colors of copics that all blended well together and then used sets of threes to decorate the butterflies. This is my favorite way to color multiples so that they look different from one another but still coordinate.

I hope you’ll play along with us and get inspired by the colors for this challenge. For more inspiration and a place to link up your creations, visit the DeNami Design blog here. See you over there!
