Video Tutorial Monday 55 – I Love You with Sew Easy and Tissue Tape

September 26, 2011

Hello and happy Monday! Well, at least we can try for a happy Monday even if I feel like I need about 6 doses of caffeine to be productive today. Ha. The good news is that I got a lot of things done yesterday, so today is a little more bearable. On the to-do list for today: a three page paper, roughs for an identity design project and some intense sketching for a photo composite that I have to do based off of an article on the London Riots. Now I just need to make it through 4 hours of work and 7 hours of class, and I’ll be good to go.

On a side note, I’ve been wearing my glasses constantly since I got them on Saturday, and my head feels SO much better. I usually have annoying pressure point headaches by the end of every day (culminating into a really bad headache once every couple of weeks), and I can tell my new prescription is helping take a lot of the strain off of my eyes. Note to past self: get new glasses earlier! Duh. I thought I would share my experience with you; maybe you’re going through the same thing right now. I thought it was all stress-related, but it turns out my headaches were mostly brought on by my eyes. I love easy fixes like new glasses.

Oh, and my youtube channel is almost up to 1000 subscribers! As I’m writing this, I’m at 991, so I think I’ll get there in the next couple of days. Thats SO COOL! Thanks so much to everyone for being so supportive over the past year of videos. I’m so thankful for you. :)

Now for the video tutorial for this week. I was feeling really homesick yesterday (which is really unusual for me- I’ve been moved out of my parent’s house for three years now and have gotten homesick maybe twice in this entire time), so I wanted to make a card to send to my parents. I’m a big fan of copics + kraft cardstock, so I thought that’s what I’d do for this week.

Here’s the finished card:

I love those cute elephants. They’re from the A Little Lovin’ set from Paper Smooches. And guess what? Simon Says Stamp now carries Paper Smooches Stamps! Check out the full selection here.

Hope you enjoyed the card for this week! This isn’t the only video I have for you this week, either. I just filmed a haul video that I will post as soon as I get a spare moment to edit it. :) Oh, and I wanted to share one of the things I made yesterday – a reverse appliqué camera design that I’ve learned how to do from Amy Tan’s The Good Life class over at Big Picture Classes. I’m so happy to be taking this and using my sewing skills. :)

Here’s a look at the camera up close. The design is from Amy Tan herself. This was just my first try, so I think I’m going to have to try again and make the camera super big. I think that would be really fun!

The class registration ends on the 28th, so if you want to sign up, now is your chance! I’m really liking my first Big Picture class so far. I hope to have a lot more to share with you as the class goes on. :)

Happy Monday to you. Off to get some caffeine!

The tissue tape elephants are toooo cute! That’s an amazing idea to make them out of the tape! Cute shirt, so you like the Amy Tan class, what do you get to do in it? It sounds interesting.

p.s. I really need to have my eyes checked too… maybe that is why my head hurts as well.

LOVE your card! And love what you did with your t-shirt. Can’t wait to see your haul video. I got some myself today in the mail. I placed an order with Simon Says and got it today. Small order – I got the new Ltd. Edition Fall Distress Inks. I like them! Also bought the Sizzix Framelits – the Rounded Tags one. Karen Burniston did a cute Halloween card with this Framelits set. I got the new Oct. Afternoon Sidewalks line – the 8×8 paper pad and the chipboard. Got this and bottle caps, etc. from a friend in NJ that has a webstore. LOVE this Sidewalks line! I’m drooling over it now that I have it in front of me! LOL! Glad your glasses are helping.

The elephants are adorable! The tissue tape is a great idea. I had to laugh as you pulled your floss apart. You really need to ‘strip your floss,’ pull one ply at a time and then put them back together. It saves on the tangles. How do I know? After many, many hours and years of cross stitching. :D Your t-shirt is cute, too.

Thanks for the great advice! I’ll try this next time. I’ve been using embroidery floss for years and never have thought to do this. Duh! ;)
