Behind the Scenes – Lily Pad Cards Video Tutorial

Next up in my little behind-the-scenes series this weekend is my guest post over at the Lily Pad Cards blog from a couple days ago. This is such a helpful, inspiring blog, and I was thrilled when Vicky asked me to create a guest post for them! She requested “something inky,” and I had been playing around with Distress Stains, so I thought this would be fun to do an “Introduction to Distress Stains” video.

I thought I would give you a little bit more of a up-close look of all the cards. I didn’t want to send over a million pictures to the Lily Pad blog because they probably didn’t want a million pictures in their post, but I have lots of fun close-ups to share with you to compliment the video. This way, you can see each card individually. Maybe I’ll even persuade you to pick up some Distress Stains on the way. Here’s a picture of the Distress Stains I’ll be using in all of their natural beauty. ;) Then,  there’s the video tutorial for your viewing pleasure.

Next, here’s the finished card set as a whole:

Here’s a texture shot of the finished set. I love how six inks can do such awesome and varied things! I colored the plain pearls with a R22 Copic marker. This is the best way to come up with a whole bunch of the same colored pearls for sure.

I was a little worried about this first card when I was making it, but it dried so beautifully. I see a bright, happy sky when I look at it. :)

The effect on this one turned out a little more subtle than I would have liked, but I still love this look. Versamark + misted water stamped on top of dried Distress Stains.

Ahh… classic emboss resist. It always looks so magical.

This last card is a perfect example of how I’m still learning with Distress Stains. Although you can definitely see the contrast in these pictures, the white didn’t end up nearly as vivid as I wanted it to be. At Scrapfest, Tim wiped the white Distress Stain off the project before it dried. I’m going to have to try that next time. I’ll definitely share more as I discover more ways to use the white Distress Stain in particular.

Hope your weekend is going well. Today I went to the post office to drop off several packages I had to mail and then went to get my eyes checked and pick out new glasses. I had my eye on a pair even before I had my appointment, and although I looked at pairs for almost an hour, the pair I liked from the very start came out on top. Talk about gut feelings! Here I am in my new glasses. I’m farsighted, so I really only have to wear them for close-up work, but they’re mild enough where I can wear them all the time if I want. I love my nerdy glasses so much that I might be wearing them all the time from now on!

These are the Ray-Ban New Wayfarer in Avana/beige texture (an update of the classic Ray-Ban style from the 80’s). I love the pattern on the inside- it’s that little touch of detail that I love about things in life. Other than that, I’m working really hard this weekend (really hard in comparison to usual weekend laziness, at least) on design projects, papers and design team assignments so I can take it easier this week and then have fun in Ohio with some awesome crafty ladies. Graeter’s ice cream, come to mama! I’m already trying to decide which flavor to get first. Hehe!
