Three important things.

September 13, 2011

Firstly, I’m super excited about the response to my post yesterday with the giveaway. You guys rock. Okay, that’s not actually my first thing, but I needed something to start off my post and it’s true, so I thought I’d say it.

My Thoughts on Being Busy

It’s weird, because I’ve been telling a lot more people about my blog that I know about in real life. You know why? Because I’m so happy to be doing this. The response is happy and people ask me questions about it. “How do you find time to write posts?” “When do you sleep?” “Can you teach me how to do that?” Designers are funny. We’re always talking about how little sleep we’re getting and how much time we spend doing things (and procrastinating doing said things). I don’t really know where I’m going with this except to say that since I have a passion for sharing, I find time for it. I like writing blog posts. I like tweeting…. so I do. And I hope it stays like that. :)

I guess I’ve been feeling observant and introspective lately. I’ve been talking to a lot of people about deep things and things that have happened in the past. I’ve been talking a lot about design and how it affects people. I’ve been talking about consumerism and our duty as designers and what society wants us to act like. I’ve just been talking. And thinking. I’m inspired to work on my designs and get things done. I’m inspired to get to my desk and play and create. I want to make a video every day and share with you.

If only I had as many hours in the day as necessary to do everything! My brain gets a little (a lot) too ambitious sometimes. So that’s where I am right now: active, inspired and exhausted.

I’ve decided that if I get everything done I need to this week (the list is a mile long), I’m buying myself an iPad. Because you know what? I’ve been working my butt off for the past several months. I think and iPad would be the perfect thing to compliment a trip to Spain in the near future. ;)

A Card + Reminder

Okay, enough of me blah-blah-blah-ing. Here’s the second thing. Here’s a card I made that goes along perfectly for the current Young Crafters Unite challenge. If you didn’t know (or forgot – which is totally excusable!), the very first YCU challenge, coloring a stamped image, ends on Thursday and we’ll have a new one up next Thursday. So now is the time to play along!

Hopefully this will help spark your creativity:

I colored my image with copics. New (to me) BG ones! They’re pretty. :)

{Did you know that you can hover over those product images to see what the name is? :) }

An Awesome New Product

The next thing I wanted to talk about is the InLinkz Link Manager. I mentioned it last week in this post, but I wanted to share a little bit more about what makes this tool special to me.

I use this tool in pretty much every post I write, and although it takes a bit of time at first to enter in all of your essentials, it now takes me mere seconds to make a supply list and post it. Plus, I know a lot of creative people are visual like me, and having a supply list with pictures is a really effective way to show you exactly what I’ve used to make the card. If you’re just now learning about this handy little tool. Here’s a video that explains it:

Here are the top three things I love about this tool:

  1. It saves me a ton of time.
  2. It makes it easier for people to see what I used on my projects. (I get far fewer questions now about things that I use on my cards. That means this is working!)
  3. It’s really easy to use.

If you’ve seen this around and are wanting to try it out on my blog, you can head over to the inlinkz website and try the Link Manager for free until the end of the year! Use the coupon code 33886114 to let them know that I sent you over and to be able to register.

I really, truly hope you love this product as much as I do. Aris has done an amazing job designing this product, and I’m so grateful that he let me be a beta tester! (That, and Aris and his awesome wife, Vicky, are just all-around cool people. I’m hoping to visit them in Greece for a weekend or so when I go to Europe next year!)

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Remember to hop over to the YCU blog to join in our challenge! See you tomorrow with some more inspiration. :)

Britta your designs your posts your videos make me smile. I have been thinking alot lately about my own blog why I made it where I want it to go and why it makes me so freaking happy…funny think except for a very few family member I haven’t share the fact that I have a blog with anyone. Guess to me it my own little secret world where I can escape and there are only wonderful encouraging comments sprinkled with blog candy every now and then…

An iPad should be a staple in every household. I bought one at Christmas when I was sick a lot. I LOVE it. That’s how I check your blog every day. Your ideas are awesome and I hope you can make it a career in the future. Good luck to you!

I’m also trying to spend more time blogging and when I do I always wonder how other people find the time, and I don’t even do videos! I’m glad you like it as that comes through in your posts! I used the inlinkz link manager & I already love it! Do you make a new category for each project? Or do you have “master lists” of manufactures? I’m not exactly sure how I want to organize it all. Maybe you could do a video of how you like to use it??

Hi Britta, I love your cards and video tutorials! Congrats on the iPad:) If you are not planning taking your computer to Spain, the “camera kit” would help loading your camera photos into your iPad :) Enjoy

What a great motivation – an iPad!! Love it! You should definitely get one.
The inlinks product manager – I love it. It helps a lot to see the list of products that you use, I go over it every post.
