Young Crafters Unite Challenge #1 – Coloring a Stamped Image

August 23, 2011

I’m absolutely thrilled to bring you my very first post for the very first Young Crafters Unite challenge! Marie and I started this challenge blog with the intentions of showing everyone what us young crafters have to offer and also to celebrate how crafting makes us all feel young at heart, so grab your stamps and some coloring mediums and we hope you’ll join us in this first challenge adventure!

Here’s what I came up with. I was feeling in the coloring mood, so I decided to create three cards – each flower is colored in using a different medium.

This one is my favorite, I think. It consists of Distress Inks (Tumbled Glass, Broken China and Stormy Sky). The background is Lavender Sachet JBS Ink.

Here’s the close-up. I love how smooth the Distress Inks blend together!

This next one was colored with Prismacolor pencils (I have the 48 ct set). The smooth look is unmatched, but you have to make sure to always go over the coloring with a black pen or marker to make the stamped lines really pop. The background is Stick Candy JBS ink.

This one is the Copic flower using B21B24 and B26. It’s nice and smooth like the distress inked one. The background on this one is Chewing Gum JBS ink.

I hope you enjoyed seeing the differences between the three coloring mediums! As you can see, no matter what you have on hand, you can always create something that looks wonderful with a nice flower image and a little bit of black outlining. :) Make sure to hop over to the YCU challenge blog and link to your creation so you’ll have a chance to win this from our lovely sponsor, Simon Says Stamp!

Also, make sure to check out the fantastic, fabulous, amazing design team blogs and leave them some love! :) Here are your links for this challenge:

Thank you so so so much for stopping by today to share this joy with me. I can’t wait to see you play along with our first challenge, and I hope you have fun with it! I’m so humbled by all of your support and sweetness in this adventure. You’re the best!

Britta, these are wonderful! I love the layout, the bold flower, and how you used different mediums so we can see the difference. I don’t own distress inks or copics, so I’m definitely a colored pencil gal (although I love the look of the others too!!). I also find myself going over the stamped lines with a fine marker once I’m done coloring.

These are fabulous! I like that you have you shown us 3 different methods of coloring the same image, it is a great comparison in addition to being a lovely project.

Love the colors you used and that flower is beautiful. You are single handedly responsible for my growing collection of Prismacolor pencils!
