VTM #39 – Spray Ink Sunshine

June 6, 2011

I’m feeling random and a little scatterbrained today, so I think I need to do this post in list form. I have lots I want to share!

1. Today’s Video Tutorial Monday

I was really wanting to make a yellow card, so I came up with this idea to use Lemonade Mister Huey from Studio Calico. Here’s what I created this week:

I love the texture the spray ink like this. It’s such a cool (not to mention trendy) look with very little effort.

Here’s the video for this week:

Supplies: Cardstock – Papertrey Ink (Vintage Cream, Smokey Shadow and Aqua Mist), Spray Ink – Studio Calico (Lemonade Mister Huey), Stamp – Papertrey Ink (Signature Series: Flower), Ink – Tsukineko (Memento Tuxedo Black) and Ranger (Distress Ink in Pumice Stone), White Pen – Uni-Ball Signo Broad, Gems – Hero Arts (Hero Hues Sea Mixed Accents), Corner Rounder – We R Memory Keepers (Corner Chomper), Heart Punch – Stampin’ Up! (Heart-to-Heart Punch)

2. My mom’s Etsy store

I helped my Mom set up her etsy store last week (Heart in Hand Bags), and she e-mailed me yesterday really excited about making her first sale. She’s been sewing for years (she’s an interior designer by trade) and has sewn countless costumes and dresses for me over the years (including both of my prom dresses in high school). My mom rocks. She actually made the purse that I carry around right now, too. And the my favorite pillow case that sits on my bed. Ha. Here are a couple things in her store that I love:

Left to right and top to bottom: Cherries To Go tote bag, Wonderful Watermelon Stripe bag, Green and Pink Paisley Pizazz bag and the Tinkerbell fairy doll outfit (the adorableness overwhelms me!)

And I just called my mom and she said that I could give my blog readers a discount on her bags. If you place an order from her store, you can use the code LOVE10 for 10% off your purchase. She’s trying sell her current supply of bags, aprons and doll clothes so she can start making some more fun designs. I’m so proud of my mommy. :) This coupon code will be good until next Wednesday, June 15th at 11:59 pm CST. If you have an requests or fabric you would like to see, feel free to e-mail me or comment and I’ll pass it on to her. :)

3. A new friend

I just wanted to share a new friend that I made, Marie (a.k.a. Legojenta) from Norway. I’ve watched a ton of her videos on her youtube account and love that she’s a young crafter like me (and she makes really cute cards). We may have a little something fun in the works, but I’m not allowed to share about that quite yet. More about that later this week! Make sure you check out her blog and youtube in the meantime. :)

4. My casino adventure

Saturday night was a ton of fun! One of my roommates, Jake, and I went to a local casino (Mystic Lake) for some slots and late-night bingo. I had never been to one before despite living in a state where it’s legal to gamble when your 18 versus 21 in most other states, and it was definitely more fun than I expected to be. Not that I’m going to turn into a crazy gambler or anything, but it’s definitely added to my list of “fun things to do around the city.” Here are some pictures of the slots. I started with $20 and ended up leaving with about $45. That’s some pretty decent beginner’s luck! Jake, on the other hand, lost $27. I guess I found his money… haha.

That cat slots machine was one I played on the way out to add $3 to my $42 voucher that I took a picture of. It was by far the most disturbing one I saw. I’m pretty sure it even meowed. Haha!

Jake and I went to late-night bingo. It was all black lights, neon and pop music. Definitely different than I had pictured a game of bingo in my head. Lol! There were a ton of college + high school students there… a nice contrast from the older people and chain smokers out in the main hall (which seemed to go on and on forever). Over all, I’d say it was a pretty exciting and successful night.

5. I made the MAY ARTS design team!!!

Thanks to my lovely friends and blog readers leaving comments on my audition posts over there and for all the support. I’ve had fun just in my audition process and can’t wait to create things as a true DT member! May Arts is a great company, and I’m super glad to support them. I’m sure you’ll be seeing more from me + them very soon.

Thank you for stopping by today. I got lots of creating time this weekend, so I have lots to share this week. Off to go film the All About Stamping lesson for tomorrow. Hint, it’s a company that you would be surprised if I didn’t cover. Hehe. See you tomorrow!

Love,
Britta

Congrats on making the May Arts DT!

By the way, this weekend I’m headed to a casino (and I know they will assume I am under 21 and will have to carry my license everywhere to prove I am of legal gambling age, haha), and I hope to win big at the nickel slots! I’m not much of a gambler either, but I enjoy hitting the video slots. Always amusing!

Fun post! First off, love the card. Second, your Mom’s bags are very cute, I will have to check our her store. I am a small bag girl myself and always have trouble finding purses that I like that aren’t too big. I really need to share the one I got in Hawaii with you, very cute fabric :). Third, I have just recently discovered Marie’s blog too, can’t wait to dig in some more! Fourth, I have been to a casino, I did not like loosing my money too much and it was super smokey and on the Indian reservation where at the time there was no alcohol allowed. But, I would totally be into the black light, pop music, Bingo! Looks like fun! I have been black light mini-golfing before, now that will mess with your head. And finally congrats on the new DT position. I am sure you are excited. I guess you will sell me on some May Arts ribbon next won’t you? HA! Thanks for sharing this fun post Britta! I always look forward to what you have to share.

Great idea on the mist and the hearts. I have a lot of mist and don’t use it enough. I mainly use it on flowers. Like the idea you gave.
Looks like a fun time at the casino.

First of all – congratulations on making the May Arts DT! I hope to see more ribbon goodness from you soon =)

So nice of you to set up an etsy store for your mom. I hope she’ll sell lots of bags!

Also, I just wanted to thank you for showing the spray ink in your video. I’ve never really gotten on the bandwagon as far as the spray inks go. I think it’s because I’ve only really tried out one glimmer mist ink, and didn’t really like that the shimmer kept rubbing off onto my fingers and such. But I guess there exists spray inks that doesn’t hva shimmer as well. I should probably try some out soon!

Thanks for linking to my blog and YT page as well =)
