All About Stamping Lesson 3 – Hero Arts Clear Stamps
Thanks for being patient and waiting for this lesson to be posted. We’ve been trying to pack in as much fun as possible on the last couple days of our trip (we go home on Sunday), so I’ve been either at theme parks, eating or sleeping for what seems like the last eight weeks. Supplies: Cardstock – Papertrey Ink (Aqua Mist, Vintage Cream and Vellum Cardstock), Stamps – Hero Arts (CL383 Antique Engravings, CL449 Delicate Blossoms and CL476 With Sympathy), Ink – Tsukineko (Versamark, Memento Black and StazOn Black) and Ranger (Milled Lavender Distress Ink), Markers – Copic (V01 and YG17), Ribbon – May Arts (1/4″ Silk), Adhesive – Scotch (ATG) and Scor-Tape (1/8″ and 1/4″), Corner Rounder – We R Memory Keepers (Corner Chomper).

Not only do I love this picture, but the storm that came about 30 minutes later cleared out the vast majority of the people, so we got the rides and the fireworks pretty much to ourselves! (The rain stopped after about an hour.) More on that later. Now I must go crash.

Wow, that is one amazing picture!! I just love it. Its so Florida right now! It rained most of the day here yesterday! But this pic, with the castle there, against the black sky, with that family sitting @ the table… just beautiful!

Also, I think the flower stamp you used in the video is so beautiful, and I love how it looks colored purple like you did. I have that stampset too, but have only used it once and colored the flowers yellow then =) TFS!
I really like the tutorial. I find that with the clear stamps, I need to clean it with Staz On cleaner to get rid of the solvent, then I clean the stamp with soap and water. I have heard too many horror stories of people ruining their stamps from NOT cleaning Staz On/Versamark off of them. Also, a trick from Kristian Werner: if you don’t want the tail of the ribbon to go to the back of the card, you can use your scissors and cut a tiny hole on the folded edge, and thread the ribbon through there, and adhere it to the inside of the front of the card. I do that to both ends of the ribbon, then I have no worries about fraying.
I do have a question though. Is the Paper Trey Cardstock thick and sturdy for a card base? I’m not American, and I’m hesitant to buy their cardstock, not knowing if it’s strong enough to do a card base. I have some 80 lb stuff that won’t hold up to any layering :(
Thanks for your comment, Karen! I’ve heard conflicting things about StazOn in general; some say that the cleaner is harmful while others say that the ink is harmful to the stamps. I’m just going to keep wiping them off with water (and occasionally soap + water) and will update you if I have any issues. So far, so good though. Thanks for the tip that Kristina uses. I do that some times and learned it from her as well. :)
Papertrey Ink cardstock is most definitely sturdy enough for card bases. It’s 110 lb, so it’s much thicker than 80 lb. In fact, if you don’t score it before folding it will crack. I love it for card making, though! I know shipping overseas is expensive, but in my opinion it is worth it. Here’s a blog post and video I did about making your first PTI order. Hope that helps!
