Modern Basics.

April 21, 2011

Hey there crafters! I hope all is well with you. I’m currently in the middle of a pretty killer headache, so I’m just hoping this will do away soon. I have lots of cool ideas going through my tired little brain, including what I think will be the next video series (kind of like No-Stress Distress Inks). I don’t want to give too mcuh away as I’m not allowing myself to start the series until after classes are over in three weeks, but I can tell you that it will have to do with some of my absolutely favorite stamps. :) More on that later!

Anyways, I wanted to share two different cards I made with the new Modern Basics stamp set from Papetrey Ink. It was designed by Maile Belles, so I new I would love it. I got it out to play for the first time the other night and looooved playing with it. It’s crazy the different looks you can get with just this one stamp set. Here’s the first card:

This card uses the set in a more “traditional” way by sticking to a grid pattern. Oh, and don’t you love those ink colors? That’s Jenni Bowlin Studios (JBS) ink in Chewing Gum, Chicken Feed and Lemon Drops. Love those colors!

Supplies: Cardstock – Papertrey Ink (Vintage Cream and Kraft), Stamps – Papertrey Ink (Modern Basics), Inks – Ranger (JBS ink in Chewing GumChicken Feed and Lemon Drops).

Here’s the second card. This uses the little anntenae included in the set. I love that Maile has really set up this set for such versatility. Love these cute, modular butterflies!

Yes, that’s more JBS ink. Stick Candy, Soap Powder and Spice Tin for this one. :) My favorite.

Supplies: Cardstock – Papertrey Ink (Vintage Cream, Spring Moss, Lavender Moon and Plum Pudding), Stamps – Papertrey Ink (Modern Basics), Ink – Ranger (JBS Ink in Stick CandySoap Powder and Spice Tin), Pearls – Queen & Co., Baker’s Twine – The Twinery (Honeydew), Corner Rounder – WRMK.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little peek of one stamp set two ways. I can’t wait to use this set more and think it was definitely worth the $24 price tag. (Do you hear that? Those are the ~enable~ vibes I’m sending you. Hehe.)

Oh! And I’m about to place an order from Simon Says Stamp. I know you like to be enabled, so I’m sharing the things I’m super excited about. Here are some of the things I’m dying to try out.

So that’s it for today! I’m going to go rest again and hopefully get rid of this massive headache. Headaches make me complainy, and I hate being complainy! So let’s end on a fun note… If I was to say, do a feature on my blog about different stamp companies, what companies would you love to see featured? Leave me some comments to help give me ideas! :)

Love,

Britta

Cute! I’ve been eyeing that Modern Basics set, but haven’t gotten it. I was kind of on the fence about how well I’d be able to use the set.

    Hope your feeling better.
what great cards. I love the stamp set from PTI I have been looking at that one and the buttons and wondering what to do. You sure gave me a great idea on the modern basic. Hum may have to head on over and check it out. Thanks

Love those cards – so simple but packed with wow factor! Especially the butterflies.
Your stamps order looks fun! Can’t wait to see what treats you’ll be making with these beauties ;)
I love to get inspiration about new stamp companies – the smaller ones that you don’t see in the big stores. Supporting a small company is cool (and shopping online, even overseas, is cool with me. If only I could afford to do it more often!!)
Hope your headache gets better soon – I prescribe some stamping therapy ;)
Happy Easter weekend, hugs, Ruth S xx

Hope you’re feeling better…get some rest! Love the cards…I am also on the fence about that set. Want it, but not sure I could put something together like you did on the first one (fab). I’d love to see more on Papertrey Ink or Lawn Fawn stamps. Have a great weekend!

Terri- It was SUPER easy to do. I was afraid too, but I just took the plunge and went with the idea that I wanted it going diagonal and that all upper right and lower left corners were outlines and all upper left and lower right corners were solids. Does that make sense? You can do it!

Love both cards. Wow, it’s really cool how different in style you can go with this set.

As for the videos: top on my stamp company list would be:
    Lawn Fawn
    Paper Smooches
    Papertrey Ink

I first have to say…love the blog, videos and helpful hints. Now I have to harass you for being a bad enabler. I have already been introduced to two new stamp companies from you and now you partner up with Simon Says Stamp. My credit card is in so much trouble. :) Great job with the blog. I second the paper smooches cards. I found them thru your blog and love them. I just think that they are a tad on the cutesy side and would love to see more done with them.

CUTE cards! You inspire me (and many others I suspect) to look at our stamps & supplies in different ways.

As for companies…I love soooo many…but, what I have readily available (and can use coupons on in my lss’s – I HAVE to be thrifty) are usually the big names. Please continue to educate us on other companies. Variety is the spice of life after all.

On a different topic, I meant to ask this before, but never did… where do you teach stamping/card classes?? I am less than an hr out of Mpls (in Becker) & would love to take your classes.

Thanks for sharing your imagination with us.

Hope you are feeling better! Have you heard of Viva Las Vegas stamps? THeir store has lots of cheeky images and sentiments. I would love to see you use them!
